Free Spirit and Time Alone

“I think it’s very healthy to spend time alone. You need to know how to be alone and not be defined by another person.”
― Olivia Wilde

Happy Sunday! Hope you are doing good? This time a very thoughtful post… Hope you enjoy it 🙂

About Time Alone

I cherish time alone. Taking the time to just be. Feeling the quiet and spaciousness of life. Time to hear my breath and place my hand on my heart to feel the rhythm of my chest. Time to let thoughts arise and just pass. Time to create, read, write down ideas, paint and drink a herbal tea.

Time to lie down on the floor in my bedroom and feel my body on the floor. Time to look out of the window and not feeling the pressure or stress of every day life.

Time to read a spiritual book or look up new recipes in cooking magazines. Time to hear the creaky sounds of the house and the birds chirping outside. Time to listen to my thoughts and not use my voice or my ears for conversation. Time to reflect on how my outer landscape is aligning with my inner galaxy. Time to listen how I feel deep inside. Time for me and time to just be.

Lately, I have been asking myself….What is created in the spaces in between? If the spaciousness created by being with just me is sparing, how else can I be with myself? How else can I give to myself? I lean into moments of aloneness whether it is driving from where I live to where I work, walking along Main Street to get a coffee, or a quiet night at home with a good book. I’m experimenting with time and space. I am leaning into new ways of being with me.

Matter of Time

The present transforms into past and the future is to come with all it’s adventures and it needs practice to be in the moment of now. Silence offers the possibility feel the space and cut out the hum of life. To draw myself back into my body and into the moment, I step on my Yoga mat. I do this every day and even if just for a couple of minutes. Or sometimes I surrender myself to a yoga practice offered in filled room and with a teacher who guides you. The past week I made my first experience with Ashtanga Mysore – and let me tell you this is amazing. Basically, every student can do his own Yoga practice at his pace and the teacher is more like a mentor and gives adjustments or helps where needed.

When I do Yoga, most days, I sink into my mat, heavy with relief, need, and commitment. I focus on my breath and concentrate on myself again and again. At the close of my practice, I offer gratitude to this time and space to be with me. I am reminded that I always have the opportunity to turn my gaze inward and make time to be with me.

I would love to hear how alone time and spaciousness show up in your life. Where do you find moments with yourself and take care of you?
