We often search for beauty far away and we close our eyes for the nature right around us and do not appreciate what the environment has to offer. But as I will spent this Summer in Switzerland my goal is to see more of my own country and also show you some of the best known and hidden gems in my home country.
I had the chance to join an amazing trip to Grindelwald and ‘The Top of Europe’. Not only couldn’t we have asked for better weather but the experience as a whole is just breath-taking and definitely a must see in Switzerland (if you haven’t already).
The train ride from Berne to Grindelwald is already a slight Vorgeschmack of what is going to expect you on the mountain. The beautiful lakes of Thun and Brienz with their deep blue/green coloring let you forget every stressful moment from the hectic cities. Once arrived at Grindelwald it is only a short walk to the Grindelwald First cableway which brings you to First at 2168 metres altitude.
From the First summit station a lovely trail brings you in about 50’ minutes walk to the Lake Bachalpsee. Along the way you are accompanied by stunningly scenic views of the Eiger , Mönch and Jungfrau. The blue gem ‘Bachalpsee’ is surrounded by moorland of national importance, in winter it is usually frozen, and even now in the summer time the back of the lake was partly covered with ice.
“The sun shines down, and its image reflects in a thousand different pots filled with water. The reflections are many, but they are each reflecting the same sun. Similarly, when we come to know who we truly are, we will see ourselves in all people.” ~ Ammachi
When arriving back at the summit station of First you should not miss the Cliff walk. The rock walkway includes also a unique single-rope hanging bridge and a metal catwalk. From the view point you have a spectacular view on the Eiger in a lofty height. So nothing for the ones with fear of height 😛
It’s called the place for the fans of the good things in life. In the First Mountain Lodge you can enjoy a delicious meal while having the stunning mountain world around you. They offer classic mountain food like ‘Älplermakronen’ but the vegan options is also super recommendable – Swiss Rösti with Veggies. And on the wide spaced terrace you can relax for hours and just dream away.
FIRST MOUNTAIN CART
On the way down we had the amazing chance to be the first trying out the First Mountain Cart. The go-kart like vehicle was so funny to drive 🙂 Instead of going down the mountain with the cableway or walking this would be the thrills galore for you!
