Am I happy? What does it mean to be happy? What is happiness anyway? How do you define happiness? Lately these questions often go through my head and especially even more since I began to introduce Yoga into my life. Why is it so
difficult for us to be just happy? Happy for the moment and relaxed. Not feeling stressed but just indulge the moment and appreciate the things we have?
Honestly, I used to ‘hate’ myself or at least to push my body always to extremes even though I knew it was not for the good. But now I am learning that you need to let yourself be happy! You have to accept that you deserve to be happy! That you may be happy and CAN be happy. That you can make others happy if you yourself are happy. Many people think that happiness is linked to fate. But happiness needs the same care as a relationship or friendship. As the only person who is responsible for your happiness is you. No one else can do the job for you. And you can not make your own happiness dependent on another person (even if this sounds selfish). These are a few important things to me nowadays and I want to share with you tipps that help me and I always need to call in mind that again and again.
1. HAPPY LIST
Take a piece of paper and write down all the things that make you happy. I am not only talking about material things, like an expensive gadget or a new pair of shoes, but about experiences and people. Simple things that make everyday life easier, which feed your soul and make you happy. A few things that makeme happy are: going for a walk with my family, picking berries, drawing, painting or doing handicrafts, having a call with my parents, catching up with friends while having a drink, discovering new local restaurants, reorganizing my room or closet etc. Find things that suit you and integrate them into everyday life.
There’s hardly anything better than sports to free your head and let your body relax. Do whateveryou love, what makes you feel good. Yoga makes me extremely happy. Might it be a full 90 minutes practice in a teached class or just five minutes of meditation and a short section of sun greetings. It helps me to clear my mind and I feel so fresh afterwards. Many swear on Jogging, if you like it, go for it! It doesn’t matter when, how or where. The important fact is that you move and bring your circulation working. Sports is proved to release ‚happy hormones’!
3. EAT CONSCIOUSLY
Lately I have experienced the tremendous impact of my nutrition on my state of mind. Since I have changed and improved my diet I feel a lot better physically and mentally. But I am still finding my way and it’s a daily discovery for me still. Very important is for me to start the day with a fresh and vitamin packed breakfast. It’s good to start the day with a good breakfast.
4. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH HAPPY PEOPLE
Avoid people who are not happy, who are negative and have no positive impact on you. Because like a virus, even negative thinking is contagious. Surround yourself with people who appreciate you, who have a positive attitude, who motivate and respect you. With people who can be happy and want to be happy. I feel so good to meet new creative people that inspire me. And also therefore I love blogs as (even though often a wrong image is sent) they are so inspirational. Nonetheless, if you can try to cheer up others and be contagious with your attitude.
5. NO SELF-PITY
If something went wrong, try to find a solution and do not wallow in self-pity. I am someone who has to work on this. Sometimes I feel like crawling into bed and just wait there until everything is good again. But unfortunately, this doesn’t work. Patience has to be learned. Be patient with yourself, try to find a solution, ask someone for advice or help. Even try to laugh about an uncomfortable situation!
6. BRING A ROUTINE IN YOUR LIFE
It lies in humans nature that we stick to routines and find this comforting. I think it is important to have a certain routine in your daily life. For example doing sports or getting up at a certain time and have a rhythm in your tasks.
7. THINK POSITIVE
This is easier said than done. Positive thinking is something that you have to learn and practice. It takes time, but it is possible. Every time you catch yourself thinking negatively, remember to think positively and view it from another perspective.
8. DO NOT QUESTION EVERYTHING
“If that goes wrong then …” “But it could happen that ..” “But what if …” etc. Try to ignore these thoughts. Just do it! Do not think about what others might think, not trying to analyze each situation to every detail. Listen to your intuition, your heart and your mind. Live in the here and now.
Smile often. That not only lets out endorphins, but also makes others happy. And raises your own mood.
10. LET GO AND MOVE ON
It is easier said than done, but you should focus on the future and not on things you can’t change anymore. Don’t hold on of hurtful feelings, don’t tie yourself on your past, stop suffering. You have the choice to be happy! Try to forgive people and walk away from situation that bring you down again. I hope you like these tipps! Do you have any secret tipps that work for you?
